Another beautiful day for learning outside!

We were looking at the colours of the fall rainbow. Each person had fall colour paint chip and we tried to match that colour out in the forest. There are more colours out there than you think! So beautiful.

In preparation for Remembrance Day, we began the day talking about peace. We read The Peace Book by Todd Parr. We then did a writing reflection about what peace is for us.

The book touched upon the ideas of home that we are talking about right now.

 Mindful Monday!

Today Ms. Babcock read The Colour Monster and we identified how we are feeling today.

For math we started talking about different shapes. We looked around the room and we found that there are many shapes (squares, circles, rectangles etc...) all around us! Can you find different 2D shapes around your house?

We read "Dear Primo - A letter to my Cousin." and we learned about how people can live in different ways. Home is different for everyone.

It was such a beautiful day! We had to take advantage of the warm sunshine and so we spent the afternoon outside.

We continued talking about how plants and trees find new homes by spreading their seeds. We watched maple keys (helicopters) fly through the air and we found pinecones.
We love our leaf dances!

Rolling, rolling rolling...

Descriptors for Sharkey today:
"Sharkey is almost bald"
"Sharkey leaves are wrinkled"

We are practicing being very quiet on the bridge -so when winter comes we can feed the birds.

This week has been a beautiful start to November!

A couple of reminders- please sign up for parent/teacher interviews through Edsby and next week library will be on Thursday. Please return books for exchange on or before Thursday.

Here are some of our explorations from the past week:

We are continuing to work on recognizing how we are feeling and validating all feelings.

Marble run - problem solving.

Peg letters. If possible, please continue to work on letters and their sounds at home. Perhaps choose a letter each day and notice all of the things in daily life that start with your letter of the day.

Roll the dice and show on the magnetic ten frame.

Continuing the conversation around our worries. Remember: a worry gets smaller if you talk about it with someone!

Flowers and cookies with "connect-a-cog". We have such creative and innovative young people!

What a beautiful (yet chilly) day for outdoor learning!

Today we learned about how plants can be very clever in the ways that they spread and find new homes for their seeds.

We noticed the crunchy frost on the grass and leaves as we headed to the forest.

Frost on Selena's glove! (Glove - a "g" word - today's letter)

We found burrs! These sneaky seed pods stick to the fur of animals and then the seeds fall out as the animal walks along. Then they find a new home for the plant. They are REALLY sticky!

Two stuck to Mrs. Nye's hair! Can you see them?So sneaky!

So we did an experiment. How long will the burrs stay in Mrs. Nye's hair?

One burr fell out almost right away, but one stayed in my hair all day. Dropping seeds here, there and everywhere I went! We decided that if our classroom was a forest - there would be many new burdock plants everywhere next spring.
Some fell on Ben's desk while we were working!

We read the book Home Is...

We have started the conversation that "home" is different for everyone.

My favourite line "Home is anywhere you love."
Wondering Wednesday

 Tuneful Tuesday!

Today we built upon the ideas that we learned from the book Ruby Finds a Worry and we started to learn the song "Three Little Birds" By Bob Marley.

 Mindful Monday

Ms. Babcock (our teacher candidate) led us in a beautiful mindful walk. We paid special attention to the smells, sights and sounds as we walked. We also did a scavenger hunt to guide our walk.

Our Weekly visit to Sharkey. Sharkey is losing more and more leaves. We noticed that the only leaves left on Sharkey are green!

We read the book "Ruby Finds a Worry."

Ruby finds a worry and realizes that the more we worry about our worries or pretend that they are not there - the bigger they get! Then she discovers that if you talk about a worry -it shrinks or even goes away! Who can we talk to about our worries? Our family at home, our teachers, our friends and more!

We talked about what worries we might have. Ms. M, Ms. Babcock and I were all very impressed with the deep thinking that went into this discussion. Young people have real worries too!
