Our Fairy Tale this week is Jack and the Beanstalk.

Ms. Babcock has prepared some great learning around this fairy tale.

We are bean counters!
Roll the dice-who's beanstalk grows faster?

Bean and beanstalk measurement.

We are continuously building our repertoire of sight words. Keep practicing reading and writing these at home. Can you make sentences using sight words?

For example:

Here is the...

Happy Friday! Today you will find the scholastic book order in backpacks. Any books that you order for your home supports building our classroom library too. You'll find our classroom code on the front of the flyer.

Activism through kindness!
Our food pantry care package for a local family is coming together! Thank you for all of the donations so far! I'll be collecting items next week as well, so there is still time to make a contribution. I would love to have some artwork and/or cards of kindness along with more food to put in with the care package.

What can we do with all of this???

Challenge! Can you work with a team to create a house that the big bad wolf  (or Ms. Babcock) can't blow down!

I was so impressed with all of the amazing positive team talk I heard as we worked;

"I have an idea!"
"Ok! What's your idea?"
"Awesome guys!"

"That's a good idea!"

"We can both do it together!"

"Guys we can do it!"

Continuing with our fairy tail learning we have looked at the story of the three little pigs from different perspectives. We read the "True Story of the Three Little Pigs."

We are learning that not everyone sees the story in the same way. The story doesn't change, but our perspective can! As they say there are always two sides to the story.

We did a guided drawing session.
Look at these masterpieces!

It was so wonderful to see so many more beautiful faces in the classroom. Welcome back!

I have started to receive pages for our cookbook - they are amazing! Thank you so much to those who have submitted and I look forward to receiving them from everyone by this Friday.

I have also started receiving contributions for our food pantry care package. Thank you! Thank you! I will continue to build our care package through to the end of February.

Ms. Babcock began our new study of Fairy Tales with the story of The Three Little Pigs.

Saturday 19 February 2022

In wrapping up our "Finding our Flavours" learning we read the book Saturday at the Food Pantry.

We learned the "everyone needs help sometime."

We talked about how the food pantry helps Molly and Caitlyn and their families, and Molly and Caitlyn also show reciprocity by helping brighten the food pantry with their beautiful art. We went further and talked about how we could help others. Our amazing kindergarten minds came up with many different ways we can help others in need;

"Give them a smile."

"Play with them."

"Share."

"Fill their bucket."

I have reached out to a local food pantry and have partnered with a family who has children that are kindergarten age - a family just like yours. We will be preparing a care package for this family. Please talk to your child and find ways you can add to this care package. It may be a piece of artwork, it may be some food, it may be a greeting card of kindness, it may be a gift card. Your contribution can be anything you want it to be. I'll collect for our care package until the end of February and then deliver our love and kindness. Your support in this kindergarten activism through kindness will be very appreciated!

Continuing our learning about food, we read the book "Lulu and the Hunger Monster."

We are learning that not everyone has food to eat all of the time. Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, people may have an empty fridge at home. In the story, Lulu learns that she has people in her life that can help and we talked about who we have around us that can help - in our home, school and community.

Ms. Babcock prepared a wonderful Valentine's day for us!

We read the book What is Love?

We talked about ways love is all around us.

We made cards for people we love.

We LOVE painting!

 The Olympic Fun Continues!

Ms. S taught us how to draw the Olympic mascot Bing Dwen Dwen.
We used paint to make our drawings into Olympic masterpieces!

Tuesday 8 February 2022

Today we read Hot Hot Roti for Dada-ji. What a fun book!

Dada-ji loves to eat roti because roti gives him power!

I asked everyone- what do you like to eat and why?

We are also learning about the Olympics!

We are keeping a tally chart of the medal count. We are tracking our wonderful team Canada, the host country - China, Mrs. Nye's choice - The Netherlands and our class choice - Norway.

Look at this amazing structure! Amazing problem solving and innovation - not to mention patience and perseverance!

Monday is a spirit day! Support Team Canada and wear red/white or maple leaf clothing!

Outdoor learning fun!

First we visited Sharkey.
We noticed Sharkey is still "bald".

As we walked down the trail we noticed the natural snow "paint" from Buckthorn berries.
The birds came to visit many of us!

We are pretty sure the birds are glad for the food we brought them. See you again soon!
A fun and beautiful walk back.
