 Thankful Thursday!

We started the day with reading "My Heart Fills with Happiness"

"So many things fill my heart with happiness." Melissa

I agree!

We talked today about personal space. If parents at home could please reinforce the message that we need to keep apart from each other to keep each other safe. Many thanks.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Look at all of our beautiful orange shirts!

If you want to continue the conversation, please read this excellent article by David Robertson on how to talk to kids about this very deep and important subject.

 Wondering Wednesday!

We were wondering - how does everyone get to school?

We learned that the same number of people walk as attend school from home. They are "equal".

Our monarch butterflies are coming along nicely!

They will be finished by Friday!

Please remember that tomorrow is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. If you have an orange shirt (or other clothes) please wear it.

Tuesday 28 September 2021

Tuneful Tuesday!

Our new song for this week is "Aiken Drum". It is a fun song that we will play around with for a while. Here is the depiction of Aiken Drum we created as we learned the song:

🎵 There was a man lived in the moon and his name was Aiken Drum... And he played upon a ladle... and his hair was made of spaghetti... and his eyes were made of meatballs... and his nose was made of cheese...and his mouth was made of pizza... and his name was Aiken Drum ðŸŽµ

In our outdoor learning, we are noticing the changes in the leaves. They are different each time we go out!

This Thursday is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Please show your support by wearing an orange shirt.

 Mindful Monday!

Today we practiced our rainbow breathing. This can help us in times when we are upset, angry, nervous or anytime we just need a moment to reset ourselves.

Our letter study continues with the letter Dd. Can you find things at home that start with the letter D?

Today we looked at how many ways we can make the number 4.

We had a visitor to the class. We took a close look and then let it go outside.

Friday 24 September 2021

Please look in backpacks today for the school start-up package. There are important forms that need to be filled out and returned as soon as possible. Many thanks for your time on this.

Today we learned a bit about Terry Fox through the book Terry Fox and Me.

Then we did our own Terry Fox Walk!

This week's explorations:

Sorting at the light table.

Monarch caterpillar pattern bead work.

A close look at our beautiful monarchs before they left for Mexico.

Gaining some computer skills.

 Thankful Thursday!

We will be working on a practice of gratitude throughout the year that we are calling Thankful Thursday. Today we talked about how we can be thankful for more than just getting "things" given to us. We can be thankful for what give us happiness and joy. Here are some of our first thoughts on gratitude.

The rain brought out lots of worms! Some of us were worried about them on the pavement - so they made a safe home for the worms!

(The worms were carefully placed on top to find their way in. They aren't underneath the rocks. Don't worry!)

We thought that there had been quite enough rain thank you very much! So we sang...

🎶 Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun. Please shine down on me. ðŸŽ¶

It worked!!!

The sun came out and we were able to release our last  butterfly - "Flutter"

Safe travels Flutter!!!

Wondering Wednesday

It's the first day of fall! We were wondering what are our favourite fall colours?

It was raining today a-lot. So we thought back to our wonderful walk yesterday...

Tuesday 21 September 2021

What a beautiful day to fly!

We arrived at school to find three more butterfly friends had come out of their chrysalis.

We chose four names (and practiced our tally mark counting at the same time!)
Heart Panda, Flower, Waterbottle and Bulldozer.

During lunch - the butterflies had some lunch too, to give them some extra energy for their long flight ahead.

When the sun came out, we took the butterflies outside. They were really ready to fly! We saw them practicing inside their enclosure. Look closely -you'll see Flower taking flight!

Safe travels!

Monday 20 September 2021

 Exciting day!

We knew right from the start that exciting things were coming.

This chrysalis darkened overnight. We could see the black and orange of the wings wrapped up tight - ready to come out!

And then while we were eating lunch...

Its a girl!!!

We will decide on a name together tomorrow morning and then let her get started on her long trip to Mexico!

Friday 17 September 2021

I have absolutely LOVED my first full week of kindergarten!

I am so grateful to work with so many beautiful little learners and the best teaching partner too!

This week's explorations:

What colours are the trees right now? I wonder if they will change soon?

A visitor to our classroom! Don't worry - they are safe in their home again.

Wednesday 15 September 2021

We started the day thinking about how we are feeling...

We read "I'm a caterpillar. "

Here are some of the things we learned!

Tuesday 14 September 2021

 Our first nature walk!

What colours of flowers and leaves do you see?

Singing together!

🎵The fuzzy caterpillar
Curled up on a leaf.
Made her little chrysalis
And then fell fast asleep.
While she was sleeping
She dreamed that she could fly.
And later when she woke up
She was a butterfly.
🎵
